History of the British Short Haired Cat
It is thought that the British Short Haired Cat first came to Britain with the Romans when they invaded us in the 2nd century AD. Its ancestors go even further back in time to the Egyptians and became favorites of the Emperors from 63 BC to 14 AD. They were used to safeguard corn and other food from rodents. |

When they arrived in Britain with the Romans they were still used to guard the grain and keep rodents in check. Most of the cats lived a semi ferel existance, but some became pampered pets of the rich and poor alike.
The body shape has not changed over centuries, with the head being large and round, the male being bigger than the female. Eyes are round and the legs are short and muscular, with the tail long enough to balance the body and should be thick at the base with a rounded tip. There are quite a few different colours and new ones being introduced all the time, the most common seems to be Blue, but the colour that came over with the Romans was Black.
